The maximum length of a domain name is 67 characters including domain name only. Dash "-" can not be the first or last character. Domain names are not case sensitive ie you can use 'A' or 'a' and both are equally treated.
A domain name must be registered before it is available for use. The record can not be for a period less than one year or more than ten years. It takes two or three days after the registration of domain name to propagate across all servers on the World Wide Web. ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is the organization that manages the DNS system. Every domain name has like.com extension. Org,. Edu, etc. known as top-level domain (TLD) or Generic Top Level Domain (gTLDs). There are two other like.us extension of character. Uk,. In what is known as ccTLD or Country Code Top Level Domain.
Domain names are represented internally as a numeric value called IP addresses that are too difficult to learn or remember. The process of linking this numerical value in character string is called Domain Name System. This domain name system translates the name of your registered domain name or web site your IP address.
Registering a domain name does not mean you have a website or a place to upload a website. The record is simply carrying out a name for your website. In order to upload or create website pages on your website will have a hosting service that will provide a space for their websites. Once you get a hosting service, then you can point your domain name to that host. Your host will provide you with two or more numeric string called primary DNS (Domain Name Server) and Secondary DNS being used for the purpose of pointing your domain to your host. Your hosting service may or may not provide your site design services.
