.tel Domain – the Landrush Begins!
April 13th, 2009 by admin | Filed under Domain Name, Expired Domain.
Landrush registration for dot tel (.tel) top level domain is well entruly underway. The Landrush registrations commenced on 3rd of this month and will continue at a premium price till 23rd March, 2009, after which, the domain is open for registration to the general wide public. I had earlier written a two part series on Reasons to register a .tel domain name and you can revisit these posts to get better acquainted with this unique TLD.
Here are two two posts:
The Virtual Phone book
Dot tel domains would create the web’s repository for contact details of a particular company or individual. With the continued advancement and focus towards mobile communication, dot tel will create a easy to use and on demand access to contact details from any sources connected to the internet. In other words, dot tel will become the first port of call for those on the move.
Open to abuse
There have been critics that the system is open to abuse as anyone can register a dot tel name pretending to be someone else, and display bogus details of the contact. However Telnic has brushed aside these criticisms stating that dot tel names only focus on contact details, so it will be very easy to verify the legitimacy of any information displayed on a dot tel website. In addition, Telnic controls all contents of a dot tel website…this makes phishing and spamming attempts even more difficult.
The Price Tag
In the Landrush registration period, dot tels would cost around $300 a piece for the first three years; reduced to approximately $20 a year after the third year. All registration during the landrush period will be active towards the end of this month.
How does this benefit small businesses?
Dot tels work in such a way that it offers internet publishing for everyone without the need for high cost website development and maintenance. Dot tel allows exchange of information through multi-communication channels, ranging from instant messaging tools to micro blogging platforms. In short, your online presence does not have to cost you a fortune.
