I am a noob, and I totally loved hostgator.

I had never used hosting before and thought it would be so complicated. Well, not with hostgator. They have videos on how to setup everything and basically I was running in a couple of hours, and that’s from ZERO knowledge of hosting a site.

Their cPanel is really cool and I never had any problem. The swan package is $15 per month. I got my first month at a discount (for $4) using a coupon found on google.

If you’re a noob, definitely go with hostgator.

I have never used another hosting service before so I can’t tell you it’s better or worse. I can just say I’m 100% satisfied. If you have any questions I’ll be glad to try to answer them.

I currently use hostgator for a couple  sites and I’ve also been very happy with them. My biggest praise has to be their prompt response to support requests. I asked for a simple increase of ram in the php.ini for my account and it was done within 30 minutes! I cant say I get the same treatment, even if I call, at places like dreamhost and such. Hostgator also offers ssh access but doesn’t advertise it very well. You have to email them to request it as its not enabled by default but I find it makes managing your site sooooooooooo much easier than through ftp. I wish they weren’t so restricted with the shell though which is why I pay for a colo too….
